The father of the 23-year-old victim, who is a sergeant, says he wants those responsible for his son’s death to face the death penalty

Four Indonesian soldiers have been arrested following the death of a newly inducted army recruit who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his seniors, triggering a public outcry and renewed scrutiny of violence within the country’s military ranks.

Prada Lucky Chepril Saputra Namo, 23, died on Wednesday in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Nagekeo, a remote district in East Nusa Tenggara province, after suffering extensive physical trauma reportedly inflicted by his fellow soldiers.

Military police detained four suspects linked to the incident on Friday. They are currently being held at a military police facility in the nearby town of Ende while investigations continue.
