Keir Starmer today condemned Israel's plans to take control of Gaza City as 'wrong'.

The PM warned of 'more bloodshed' and urged Benjamin Netanyahu to reconsider after the dramatic announcement overnight.

The move approved by the Israeli war cabinet stops short of fully taking over all of Gaza, as had been touted.

But Sir Keir insisted Israel should de-escalate, rather than launch the operation.

In a statement issued by Downing Street this morning, the premier said: 'The Israeli government's decision to further escalate its offensive in Gaza is wrong, and we urge it to reconsider immediately.
