Leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) unanimously passed a resolution authorising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief and Union Minister J.P. Nadda to choose the NDA’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election set to take place on September 9.
The resolution was passed at a meeting of NDA leaders presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who was present at the meeting and later briefed the media, said that the person chosen by Mr. Modi and Mr. Nadda would be acceptable to all members of the alliance.

“The decision taken by the Prime Minister will be accepted by all alliance parties,” said Mr. Rijiju. The resolution was proposed by Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh and seconded by Ram Mohan Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and supported by the floor leaders of all the NDA parties.
Sources present at the meeting said that the name of the candidate will be announced around August 12, with August 21 being the last date for filing nominations.
