The Israel Defense Forces has launched an operation to arrest yeshiva students who evade conscription, as the ultra-Orthodox parties have responded by announcing a "determined struggle" against the arrests.

Haaretz has determined that five yeshiva students have been arrested so far: three during a protest against the alleged desecration of graves at a construction site in Yehud and two at their homes in Tel Aviv. Another six were detained or arrested and released in the wake of protests or the intervention of lawyers and activists.

Ultra-Orthodox officials told Haaretz that in recent months, their parties have drawn up a contingency plan for quiet civil disobedience, intending to drive large companies or banks to collapse.
