During the war in Gaza, Israeli air attacks have targeted more than 500 school buildings, many serving as shelters for displaced people, Human Rights Watch said in its report.

In two of the school strikes it investigated – which targeted the Khadija girls’ school in Deir el-Balah on July 27 last year, killing at least 15 people, and al-Zeitoun C school in Gaza City on September 21 last year, killing another 34, Human Rights Watch found “no evidence of a military target”, thus making them “unlawfully indiscriminate”.
