Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich on Tuesday tore apart President Donald Trump for firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whom he accused — without evidence — of manipulating job numbers for political purposes.
“That is a big crock of lies, that is amazing bullshit,” Reich told “Pod Save America” host Jon Lovett when asked if there’s a “kernel of fact” to claims that there was a problem with the fact-finding agency’s data.
Reich — who headed the Labor Department under President Bill Clinton — called Trump’s claims “not only ridiculous” but “absurd.”
The weaker-than-expected July jobs report showed revisions to figures from prior months, a typical practice at the BLS. Trump, in a meltdown on his Truth Social platform, claimed that the numbers were “RIGGED” against him and Republicans to make them “look bad.”
“He is either clinically paranoid — I mean, seriously — or he’s the most devious and irresponsible person ever to hold that office. It may be both,” Reich said.
