Arya Nanda’s dream of driving a KSRTC bus finally hit the road, thanks to her inspiration— her late father Prasanna Kumar, a seasoned KSRTC driver. She made history of sorts by becoming the first woman to secure a heavy vehicle licence from the KSRTC Driving School at Ponnani.
With gratitude, Ms. Nanda credits the KSRTC for opening the driving school’s doors to women, paving the way for a new generation of female drivers. “On seeing my father drive, I used to imagine myself sitting proudly behind the wheel in a KSRTC bus,” she recalled.
Ms. Nanda from Thriprangode chanced upon the KSRTC Driving School at Ponnani while studying at the BEd training college. “Seeing the school’s signboard made me realise it was the doorway to fulfilling my dream,” she said.

After a month of training, including theory classes, she obtained her heavy vehicle licence. She said the KSRTC Driving School was far better than private driving schools. Ms. Nanda highlighted its benefits, noting that the programme combines theory and practical sessions at an affordable fee.
