Parts of the Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia were locked down Wednesday (August 6, 2025) after an active shooter was reported on the sprawling Army post, a spokesperson said.
Casualties have been reported after the incident, Fort Stewart said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (August 6, 2025).
“The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene,” it said, adding the incident took place in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.
No further information was immediately available, including on the number of casualties and their severity.
Fort Stewart said in the Facebook post that “casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing.” It's unclear whether casualties include injuries, deaths or both. “We are currently assessing the situation but we can confirm an active shooter,” Lt. Col. Angel Tomko said.
