A six-member team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) began its investigation into the murder of former Yuva Morcha (youth wing) leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Puducherry unit, K. Uma Shankar. He was brutally hacked to death near Paris Mahal in Lawspet, Puducherry, on April 26.

Police sources said the documents and case diary files were handed over by the Lawspet police to the CBI team with the evidence collected so far. The Lawspet police had arrested 15 persons, including the prime accused Karuna, in connection with the murder. Karuna was involved in four criminal cases in Puducherry.
