Rather than launch a crackdown on phone muggers blighting London, the Met Police have today thrown their weight behind new purple road markings on Oxford Street.
Shoppers, commuters and tourists are being told not to use their phones along the stretch of road in an area where a mobile is stolen every 15 minutes.
Retailers previously warned that Oxford Street and other flagship high streets are at 'serious risk' without urgent national action on crime.
The purple line with a marking of 'Mind the Grab' is set to be added to the pavement on a section of Oxford Street to warn pedestrians of the dangers.
It comes as research found that 88 per cent of Londoners are now worried about their phones being stolen in the city.
