Delhi Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) approved a proposal to make Aadhaar card mandatory for issuing income certificates to eliminate irregularities, if any.
The proposal, under Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, endorsed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, was for income certificate issued by the Revenue Department for determining the eligibility of beneficiaries for various schemes and subsidies, like reimbursement of tuition fees for SC/ST/OBC category students, pension, and financial assistance under Delhi Arogya Kosh.
The Centre and States can make Aadhaar-based authentication compulsory to establish the identity of an individual under the Act, a Raj Niwas official said.
‘Publicise decision’
The L-G has also advised the Revenue Department to publicise the decision to make people aware of the Aadhaar requirements, the official said.
