BBC star Jay Blades appeared in court this morning over a charge of coercively controlling his ex-wife – as a judge was told he has separately been charged with two counts of rape.

The television presenter appeared via video link at Worcester Crown Court during a brief administration hearing over the charge of coercively controlling his estranged partner Lisa-Marie Zbozen.

Worcester Crown Court heard Blades, 55, would next appear at Telford Magistrates Court to face the rape charges on August 13.

Blades, who was listed at court under his full name of Jason Blades, spoke only to confirm his name. He appeared on the link wearing a grey suit and blue polka-dot tie and wearing animal print rimmed spectacles.

The hearing lasted less than 15 minutes and Blades was granted bail by judge James Burbidge KC.
