Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) slammed the presence of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel inside Parliament. He was responding to remarks from Deputy Chairperson Harivansh regarding his letter dated August 1 to the Chair over the issue. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. after Opposition protests over the issue.

Mr. Harivansh informed the House that Mr. Kharge wrote hime a letter regarding the presence of CISF personnel in the House and also spoke against the letter being shared to the media. Mr. Harivansh also denied the presence of CISF personnel in the House as claimed by Mr. Kharge.

However, Mr. Kharge responded, saying that protests were a part of the Opposition’s rights, and the presence of CISF personnel was against those rights. He questioned whether the House was run from the Chair or by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
