The forensic technique of superimposing the image of the scene of crime and the accused, including that of his genitals, with the videos of the sexual assault to conclude that the person in the two images is the same, was employed to identify former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna in the video evidence linked to the rape case against him. This technique was used for the first time in Karnataka.

Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat, of the Special Court of Session for criminal cases against former and present MP/MLAs, in his judgement convicting Prajwal Revanna for rape, appreciated the investigation carried out by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for “their limpid examination in adopting and utilising the modern technology of scientific examination”, terming it a “welcome step”.

The SIT was led by B.K. Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

After arrest, Prajwal Revanna was subjected to medical examination where photographs were taken of his body parts, including his genitals, to compare with those parts of the man visible in the video, though his face was not seen. Forensic teams also took photographs of the scenes of crimes - a room in Gannikada farmhouse and a room in Revanna’s house in Basavanagudi - to superimpose them with those in the videos.
