Though rainstorm warning has been cancelled, Observatory urges residents to ‘stay alert’ to dangers from river flooding

Hong Kong’s weather forecaster issued two amber rainstorm warnings on Sunday morning and warned local residents of possible flooding as a monsoon continued to bring heavy showers to the region.

“An active southwest monsoon is bringing showers and thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea,” the Observatory said.

“Though the rainstorm warning has been cancelled, people should stay alert to the danger that may be brought about by river flooding.”

The forecaster cancelled its second amber rainstorm warning at 12.30pm, just over an hour after it was raised. It followed an earlier one that was issued at 5.45am and cancelled two hours later.
