The Supreme Court on Friday (August 1, 2025) asked why a complainant who initiated defamation proceedings against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his alleged “scorpion on Shivling” remark targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being “so touchy” and remarked there is hardly a case.

“Why do you want to be so touchy about all this? Let us close all this,” Justice M.M. Sundresh, heading a Bench, addressed BJP leader Rajeev Babbar’s counsel.

The court continued to extend the stay on the defamation proceedings in the trial court. The stay was originally granted in September last year.

On Friday, the apex court posted the case next for September 15.
