Germany's Bundeswehr armed forces have initiated airdrops of humanitarian aid over Gaza, with the first two Luftwaffe flights delivering nearly 14 tons of supplies, the German Ministry of Defence confirmed on Friday.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stated, "The flights can only make a very small contribution to providing those affected on the ground with the bare essentials." He expressed hope that Israel would ensure a more comprehensive delivery of humanitarian supplies to the besieged enclave.

In addition to the airlift, Germany has committed an additional €5 million ($5.7 million, approx. 21 million shekels) to support the World Food Programme's efforts in Gaza, according to a statement from the German Foreign Office.

The move is part of Germany's ongoing efforts to support international relief initiatives in response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which continues to face severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
