U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee are scheduled to visit a Gaza aid distribution center on Friday, the White House announced Thursday.
The visit follows a "very productive meeting" today in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials regarding the delivery of food and aid to Gaza, according to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
"President Trump is a humanitarian with a big heart, and that's why he sent special envoy Witkoff to the region in an effort to save lives and end this crisis," Leavitt added.
During their trip to Gaza, the envoys will inspect current distribution sites, work to secure plans for more food delivery and meet with local Gazans to hear about the situation firsthand. A final plan for aid distribution will be approved by President Trump after the envoys brief him immediately following their visit.
Speaking later to NBC News, Trump said, "We want to make sure people get fed," referring to the hunger crisis in Gaza. He added that he was looking forward to hearing Witkoff and Huckabee's report on the situation.
