The Whitefield division cybercrime police are on the lookout for a conman who, posing as a software engineer of a reputed IT company, availed himself of two credit cards from a private bank and cheated it of ₹25 lakh in six months.

The con came to light when the software engineer, whose name and credentials had been misused, checked his PAN card to find that two credit cards were issued in his name, and raised a complaint with the bank.

Based on the complaint filed by the security manager of the company, the police have registered a case against the unknown person, charging him under various Sections of the IT Act and the cheating and impersonation Sections of the BNS.

According to the complaint, the conman submitted the required documents, and the bank had verified the documents through KYC and video verifications before issuing the cards. The police are verifying the bank verification procedure to ascertain whether there were any lapses on the part of the bank.

After the verification, the bank delivered two credit cards to the postal address situated on Swamy Vivekananda Road in Halasuru in June last year.
