A fisherman from Assam died after a fibre boat capsized at the Chootad estuary in Kannur on Thursday (July 31) morning.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Abdul Islam, alias Ali.
The accident occurred around 8.45 a.m. when a group of fishermen from Puthiyangadi ventured out in a fibre boat named Nejas. The vessel reportedly hit a sandbar, causing Ali to fall into the sea. Other fishermen managed to swim to safety.
Ali’s body was recovered around 10.30 a.m. after a search operation involving the Fire and Rescue Services, the coastal police and local fishermen.
