The Government of India is examining the impact of the 25% tariffs and penalty announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on imports from India, and is communicating with all domestic stakeholders to assess the impact, Commerce and Industry Ministry Piyush Goyal informed both Houses of Parliament on Thursday (July 31, 2025).
Mr. Goyal’s statement follows a post by Mr. Trump on the social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday (July 30, 2025), in which he said imports from India would face a 25% tariff and penalty, citing India’s tariff and non-tariff measures, as well as its dealings with Russia on energy and military hardware.
