At the end of the operation, 157 people had been rescued and brought to Boulogne-sur-Mer in France.

So far this year, 14 people have died trying to cross the Channel, based on a tally of official French and British sources.

It was one of the largest rescue operations reported since records began in 2018

France has long been a launchpad for migrants hoping to cross the Channel to reach Britain.
