The Supreme Court on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) will hear Justice Yashwant Varma’s plea challenging the legal validity of the in-house inquiry, which confirmed charges of recovery of unaccounted cash from his official residence in the national capital.
A Bench consisting of Justices Dipankar Datta and A.G. Mashi will hear Justice Varma’s plea that the Supreme Court’s in-house inquiry process amounts to a “parallel, extra-constitutional mechanism” through which the judiciary has encroached upon Parliament’s exclusive authority.

Earlier, the judges questioned senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared for Justice Varma, on why he had participated in the proceedings despite believing the process to be unconstitutional and tainted.
The court scheduled the next hearing for July 30 and directed Mr. Sibal to place the inquiry committee’s report on record.
