Sir Keir Starmer is holding an emergency Cabinet meeting on the war in Gaza.
The Prime Minister recalled his top team for urgent talks during the summer recess amid growing pressure from Cabinet colleagues and Labour backbenchers to immediately recognise Palestine as a state.
Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister, is understood to be “100 per cent” in favour of such a move amid the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Other senior Cabinet members reportedly in favour are Lisa Nandy, Wes Streeting and Shabana Mahmood.
Around one-third of Labour MPs signed a letter last week which urged Sir Keir to follow France in adopting a policy of immediate recognition.
