BEIJING/SHANGHAI -- As the persistently weak real estate market and trade tensions with the U.S. deepen uncertainty around China's economy, new graduates here grapple with a dire job market.

A job fair held this month in a northern Chinese city was crammed early with serious-looking young people fresh out of college or graduate school, listening intently to recruiters.
