The estimated Unemployment Rate on usual status for youth of age 15-29 years and above has decreased from 17.8% in 2017-18 to 10.2% in 2023-24, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Sushri Shobha Karandlaje said on Monday in a written reply in Lok Sabha to slew of questions around raising unemployment raised by DMK MP and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

The Union Minister noted that as per the latest available Annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) reports, the estimated Unemployment Rate (UR) on usual status for persons of age 15 years and above has decreased from 6.0% in 2017-18 to 3.2% in 2023-24. Employment generation coupled with improving employability including youth is a priority of the Government, he said and highlighted various measures taken by the government. In a post on X, Mr. Maran said India’s youth need jobs, not jargon.
