Sir Keir Starmer is to raise the Gaza conflict in his meeting with Donald Trump this lunchtime.

The Prime Minister will soon arrive at Turnberry, Mr Trump’s golf course in Scotland, for private talks with the US president.

It comes amid pressure on Sir Keir to follow Emmanuel Macron, the French president, and commit to formally recognising a Palestinian state within weeks.

The Prime Minister has recalled his Cabinet for summer recess for an emergency meeting from Gaza. It comes after a third of Labour MPs signed a letter on Friday saying it was time for “immediate recognition” of Palestine and pressure from his deputy Angela Rayner.

During their talks, the beginning of which will be broadcast live, Sir Keir will press Mr Trump on whether more can be done to end the war in Gaza, which began after the Oct 7 attacks in which Hamas killed about 1,200 Israeli civilians.
