Fortunately, it now appears that the plan for a "humanitarian city" in southern Gaza will not proceed as planned, given opposition from the Israeli army which fears it would endanger cease-fire negotiations and the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas. The plan struck a sensitive chord with many, including former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert who minced no words in declaring that it is a "concentration camp" that is "part of an ethnic cleansing."
