The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday (July 25, 2025) issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government in the case of a death by suicide of a person allegedly after facing physical torture by the police in Farrukhabad district.

According to the reports, the incident took place on July 15. The kin alleged that the police had called the victim to a police station following a complaint against him by his wife. He reached the police station with his father for a compromise, but he was tortured and a bribe was demanded to settle the matter.

Observing that the matter raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, the commission has issued a notice to the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, calling for a detailed report on the matter, within two weeks.
