Four persons from Gonikoppa in Kodagu district were killed when their car collided with a lorry near Devarakolli in Madikeri taluk, on Friday.
The victims were identified as Nihad, Raquib, Mohammad Rizwan, and Naheed.
The Madikeri Rural police said the four visited Ullal, near Mangaluru, and were returning when the accident occurred on the Madikeri-Mangaluru NH 275. The impact of the collision was such that the car was reduced to a mass of mangled metal.
According to the police, while two died on the spot, the others died while being shifted to hospital at Sullia. Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims were shifted to Madikeri for post-mortem, they added.
Traffic on the highway was affected for sometime because of the accident.
