Israel, Syria hold rare high-level talks in Paris amid U.S.-backed push for de-escalation

Israel's Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer met on Thursday in Paris with Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Sheibani, in a rare high-level encounter between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by Tom Barrack, the U.S. special envoy for Syria and Lebanon, who said the talks were aimed at opening a dialogue and de-escalating tensions.
