National Missions Minister Orit Strock's remarks on Monday, expressly indicating a willingness to sacrifice the hostages in order to expand fighting in Gaza, have shocked the public. This is a constant pattern. Once in a while, Strock utters some "shocking" remark; most Israelis, whether they consider themselves left wing, right wing or centrist, are shocked, only to go back to what they have been doing. Such were the cases with her characterization of the most terrible years Israel has ever known as "a time of miracles"; with her remark about the the war's goals being "thrown away" over "22 or 33" hostages – Strock was not sure of the figure; and many other quips.
