With the monsoon intensifying and inundation risks looming large, Chamarajanagar Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mona Roat has instructed district officials to be fully prepared to tackle any potential flood situation.
Chairing a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, Ms. Roat told officials to identify vulnerable villages along the banks of the Cauvery and Kabini rivers. She cited the release of excess water from reservoirs and heavy rainfall in catchment areas as reasons for taking necessary precautionary steps.
“Officers must remain stationed at control points and ensure the 24x7 helpline is active and responsive,” she said.
She also directed officials to make arrangements for relief centres and ensure the relocation of residents from flood-prone areas, if needed.
Villages in Kollegala taluk — such as Dasanapura, Hale Hampapura, Harale, Agrahara, Yadakuriya, Dhanagere, and Saragur — have experienced flooding in previous years. Similarly, Ambale, Maddur, Ganiganur, and Mamballi in Yelandur taluk, and Chandakawadi, Alur, Saragur, Nallur Mole, Hebbasur, and Koodlur in Chamarajanagar taluk have been identified as high-risk areas.
