Explosions boomed on Monday night in Qatar, home to a major US airbase, soon after its airspace was closed due to Iranian threats of retaliation after American forces pounded its nuclear sites.
Iran confirmed it launched an attack on US forces at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base. The country’s Tasnim news agency said the missile operation, called “annunciation for victory”, was launched against US bases in Iraq and Qatar.
The White House and the US Defence Department are closely monitoring potential threats to Al Udeid, a senior White House official said.
“The White House and the Department of Defense are aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar,” the official said.
