Dobspet police have arrested a gunman and driver of Ananth Kumar Hedge, former MP, for allegedly assaulting a 28-year-old businessman during a road rage incident on Monday.

The duo along with the former MP were heading to Bengaluru from Tumakuru where they confronted Saif Khan, a businessman from Nelamangala and his family when they were returning home in a car. The family allegedly blocked the way and did not let the SUV of former MP pass, despite honking several times to give way. Irked by this, the driver and the gunman, a police constable, confronted Saif Khan, allegedly dragged him out from the car and assaulted him.

As a result Saif Khan sustained injuries and lost his tooth. The family along with other passers-by stopped the SUV and informed the police who rushed to the spot and took the accused to the station.

Based on the complaint, the police have arrested the driver and the gunman charging them for assault and criminal intimidation. The police have also recorded the statement of the MP while the victim’s family claimed Mr. Hegde instigated the attack and demanded he also be booked.
