The Boro Diaspora Forum (BDF), a non-political, non-profit, and voluntary organisation, said it was deeply disturbed by the decision of the Assam government to allot land in the Kokrajhar district to facilitate a thermal power project of the Adani Group.

Residents of the Banshbari-Paglijhora area in Kokrajhar’s Bagribari Revenue Circle have been protesting the government’s move to provide about 3,000 bighas to the Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited for the project. The area works out to 992 acres.

Part of the Bodoland Territorial Region, the Sixth Schedule area is governed by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The BDF said the decision, amounting to the encroachment of the State government upon the autonomy of the BTC, has sparked widespread resentment among the residents. It pointed out that the BTC’s land allotment order, in compliance with a State Cabinet decision, set a wrong precedent.
