A high-tension (HT) transmission tower stands tall in the middle of 1st main road at Amruthanagar in Hebbal, Bengaluru under which vehicles go like it is any other road infrastructure. The electrical tower was brought to light by a recent X post with a city resident calling it a ‘masterpiece in Bengaluru’, baffling commuters.

Residents and shop-owners in Amruthanagar say that the tower existed before they moved to Hebbal, and blamed improper planning.

“The tower has been here for 60 years,” claimed Soumashekar L., a resident living adjacent the tower for 18 years. He revealed that when trucks and buses pass through the tower, the top of the vehicles collide with the metal bars of the electric construct that not only deform the bars, but also create sharp blaring noises, especially at night.

He explained that residents have tried directing large vehicles to another road, but the drivers choose convenience over their complaints.

With the tower being present in the middle of the road, it also often leads to traffic snarls if multiple vehicles are on the road at the same time due to space limitations.
