Just as Hamas' surprise attack on Israel was aimed at derailing Israeli-Saudi normalization that ignored the Palestinian issue, Israel's surprise attack on Iran was meant to torpedo another American diplomatic effort. This time it's under President Donald Trump, and aimed at stopping Iran's nuclearization without war. In this sense, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas – especially after the reported death of Yahya Sinwar – resemble strategic twins, each having advanced their own axis of resistance.
