Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed concerns over waterlogging in parts of Delhi on Wednesday, following pre-monsoon showers a day earlier.

She assured that the government had made a note of all the spots that were inundated and assured that the necessary repair works are being carried out.

“When it pours, the drains are not able to handle the sudden flow of excess water. There is no ‘tawa (hot pan)’ beneath (the drains) to make the water evaporate. If water gets cleared in one to one-and-a-half hours, it is considered normal. If it doesn’t get cleared after that, it’s a problem and the drain needs to be checked,” the CM told reporters.

“Some work still needs to be done, and it will be properly done in the future. This I promise to the people of Delhi,” said Ms. Gupta.
