Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with a violation of the Football Association (FA)’s anti-doping rules and is facing a lengthy ban from football.

The Ukraine international, 24, was provisionally suspended after returning an “adverse finding in a routine urine test” in December and has not featured for the club since.

Mudryk went on to claim he had “never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules” and said he was “working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened”.

A violation of the FA’s anti-doping regulations carries with it a maximum penalty of a four-year suspension. A ban could range from anywhere from two years to a month, based on any mitigating factors.

An FA statement read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”
