Seven men in Los Angeles were charged with carrying out an audacious $100 million jewellery heist that may be the largest in American history.
The suspects allegedly shadowed a Brink’s lorry — a secure, armoured vehicle used by Brink’s Incorporated to transport valuables — as it left an international jewellery show near San Francisco on July 10, 2022.
The vehicle was filled with gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and luxury watches, according to prosecutors, who said the gang accused of raiding it followed the driver for about 300 miles.
The alleged thieves are said to have stolen 24 bags of jewellery worth approximately $100 million while the lorry was stopped in Lebec, 75 miles north of Los Angeles.
The robbery stunned California and was reported to have put some merchants out of business due to significant financial losses.
