President Donald Trump on Sunday did not rule out the U.S. getting involved in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, while hinting that he would be “open” to seeing Russian President Vladimir Putin help de-escalate the tension.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump left the door open for the U.S. to enter the fighting, clarifying that this is not currently the case.
“We’re not involved in it,” Trump said. “It’s possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved.”
The conflict broke out last week after Israel launched airstrikes aimed at Iran’s nuclear and missile sites, also killing some of its top generals. Trump said he was given advance notice of the plan, expressing support for Israel.
Iran responded by launching its own set of deadly attacks against Israel.
