Chants of “Vijaybhai tum amar ho” (Vijaybhai is immortal) echoed through Rajkot on Monday (June 16, 2025) as thousands lined the streets to pay their last respects to former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani (68), who died in last week’s Air India plane crash.Also read: Air India Ahmedabad plane crash updates on June 16, 2025Amid an outpouring of grief, supporters showered petals on the flower-bedecked vehicle carrying Rupani’s mortal remains from the airport to his residence, before the final journey to the crematorium. The procession, stretching several kilometres, saw emotional crowds standing on both sides of the road, many raising slogans in tribute to the late BJP stalwart.A host of political leaders, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, gathered at Rupani’s residence to offer floral tributes. Among them were Union Jal Shakti Minister and Gujarat BJP chief C.R. Paatil, Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
