The man suspected of killing a Minnesota politician and her husband sent a chilling text message to his roommates the day of the shooting.Vance Boelter’s roommate, Daniel Carlson, was emotional as he shared his final text with his friend in an interview just hours after the suspect was identified.“Dead shortly. So, I just wanna let you know that I love you guys both, and I wish it hadn’t gone this way,” Carlson read from his phone.“I don’t want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you, you guys, don’t know anything about this,” he continued. “But I love you guys, and I’m sorry for all the trouble this has caused.”Local law enforcement says Boelter appeared to be impersonating a police officer when he shot and killed State Rep. Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband, Mark, at their home early Saturday morning. The suspected shooter remains at large. The roommate of suspected shooter Vance Boelter reads the final text message his friend sent him on Saturday.Stephen Maturen via Getty ImagesThat same day, Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife were wounded in a similar but separate attack at their home in a different Minneapolis suburb.A neighbor of the Hoffmans told the reporters that the shooter appeared to be posing as a police officer as he fled the scene. After hearing gunshots, the neighbor said he saw “a black, dark black car backing out of the Hoffman’s driveway” before turning on his headlights and what appeared to be police lights.“I thought, what the heck is a cop leaving the scene after the gunshots?” the neighbor recalled.During a Saturday press conference, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said that the shootings appeared to be “a politically motivated assassination.”When they discovered Boelter’s car, authorities claim they found flyers for one of the “No Kings” rallies inside. The protests against President Donald Trump took place across the world on the same day as the Saturday shooting.A manifesto identifying “many lawmakers and other officials” was also reportedly found in the vehicle, according to police.Close
