An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed in Ahmedabad just minutes after take off with more than 240 people on board.
Flight 171 plummeted to the ground in the densely populated Meghani area of the city, striking a doctors' hostel, after it departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Incredibly, a British father was filmed walking away from the wreckage shortly after Indian police said there appeared to be no survivors.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, told local media from hospital: 'Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.'
More than 200 people have so far been confirmed dead in the tragedy, with the death toll expected to rise in the coming hours.
