President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday expressed sorrow at the school shooting in the Austrian city of Graz in which 10 people died.

Mattarella wrote to his Austrian counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen to express Italy's condolences.

"In this moment of profound sadness, making myself the interpreter of the feelings of the Italian Republic, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences and sincerest sympathy to the families of the victims," Mattarella said in the message.

"The thoughts of the Italian people, and my own ones, also go to the injured young people, to whom I wish a speedy and full recovery".
