A mother was reportedly away on an Eid pilgrimage in Mecca when a devastating house fire in West Yorkshire killed her husband and nine-year-old daughter.

Emergency services were called to Russell Close in Heckmondwike at 6.19am on Sunday, where a blaze had engulfed the family’s red-brick semi-detached home.

The mother, who had travelled to Saudi Arabia for Hajj during the Eid celebrations, had left her husband, a taxi driver, in charge of their three children.

Their son, the eldest, had been staying with relatives on Saturday night and was not at home when the fire broke out, their neighbours claim.

While his two younger sisters, aged nine and 11, were inside the property with their father.
