At least two people have died after a gunman opened fire near Las Vegas's famous Bellagio Fountains following what police have described as a 'conflict over social media.'

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said their officers responded to a shooting on the 3600 block of S. Las Vegas Boulevard at 10.40pm local time last night, and were quick to inform the public that it did not take place inside a casino.

They said that offers found two people with apparent gunshot wounds, who were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The force added: 'It is believe that the suspect and victims knew each other, and had previously engaged in conflict over social media prior to the shooting.'

'At this time, we believe this to be an isolated incident, and a possible suspect has been identified.'
