Opening statements were set to begin in the latest case involving Lori Vallow Daybell, the Idaho woman who has been convicted in at least four murders, including the gruesome killings of her two youngest children.
The latest trial of Vallow Daybell, who has become known as "Doomsday mom" for her apocalyptic beliefs, centers on accusations that she conspired with her brother, Alex Cox, to try and kill Brandon Boudreaux, the ex-husband of her niece, Melani Pawlowski, in 2019. She has pleaded not guilty and is expected to represent herself.
Opening statements were scheduled to begin June 5, over a month after an Arizona jury found Vallow Daybell guilty of conspiring to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow.
On June 4, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Justin Beresky ruled that Vallow Daybell, who is representing herself, was well enough to stand trial, and a panel of jurors was selected.
“Although the defendant expressed that she has a headache and is not able to proceed, she was able to fully advocate on her own behalf and … seems to be of sound mind and ability to proceed," Beresky said.
