House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) admission that Elon Musk hadn’t answered his phone call was mercilessly mocked on social media Wednesday.
Johnson was asked if he’d spoken to the now-former Department of Government Efficiency boss following the tech billionaire’s torching of President Donald Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful” spending bill, which Musk slammed as a “disgusting abomination” for how it will hike the national debt.
Johnson, who backs Trump’s bill, responded: “Well, I tell you, I called Elon last night and he didn’t answer.”
“But I hope to talk to him today,” he added. “I mean, it’s not, you know, it’s very friendly and we’ve laughed about our differences on policy before.”
